Dental Hygienist Salary in North Carolina (NC)

North Carolina’s average salary for dental hygienists is below the national average at $62,821.11 per year or $30.20 per hour.  This puts it in 31st place when compared to the other 49 states based on the average amount they page their dental hygienists.  North Carolina ranks higher (14th) when comparing the number of hygienists it employs statewide (5,600).  There are 27.758 dental hygienists per one thousand jobs in North Carolina, compared to 16.99 dental hygienists per one thousand jobs nationwide.

Many cities in North Carolina have fairly similar average salaries for dental hygienists, although there are a couple of outliers. Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News, VA-NC, has a dramatically higher average salary: $74,260 annually and $35.70 hourly. At the opposite end of the spectrum is Rocky Mount, which has an average annual salary of $56,360 and hourly of $27.10. Many of the other cities throughout the state have average salaries that range from about $61,000 to $65,000.

The Western Central North Carolina Nonmetropolitan Area has an average salary that is quite a bit higher than the average in North Carolina, as well as the national average. In this region of the state, dental hygienists earn an average of $70,940 per year and $34.10 per hour. The Northeastern and Western North Carolina Nonmetropolitan Areas both have average salaries that are quite a bit lower than both the average in North Carolina and the national average. The Western Area’s average salary is $57,710, and the Northeastern Area’s average salary is $57,620.
