The average salary for a dental hygienist in Indiana is $62,092.22; the average hourly wage is $29.85. These numbers are below the national average and rank Indiana 35th when compared to all of the states in the country. This likely is the case because, overall, the average income in Indiana is lower than in many other states for various reasons, including the fact that the percent of the population with a degree past high school is very low. A less educated population would earn lower salaries than a population with more people who earn bachelor’s degrees or higher, and this would affect even those people who do have more education, including dental hygienists.
There are 6,350 dental hygienists employed in Indiana. This is the 11th highest employment rate for this profession in the country. There are 27.055 dental hygienists per one thousand jobs in Indiana, which is 10.065 higher than the national average. One explanation for this is that there are many jobs available in different industries in Indiana’s economy, so dental hygienists make up a smaller portion of it than in other states or the country as a whole. Or there may be some other factor that has had this result.
